Edu is a Fulbright-awarded artist from Tenerife based in New York City.


Edu Díaz (he/him/él) is an LGBTQ+ Fulbright-awarded actor,  performer, theater producer, and writer from The Canary Islands (Spain) currently based in New York. 


He is the creator and performer in 'A Drag Is Born,' a multi-awarded show currently on tour that premiered in April 2024 at the NYC Fringe Festival, winning three Awards, including 'Best Solo Clown,' and in ‘Fantastic Mr. S,’ which premiered in 2022 at the United Solo Festival (Theatre Row, NYC). Both shows had the support of the Spanish Consulate of Spain in New York City.


In 2023, he won the Best Play Award for 'Twin Towers,' a show by Esther Caporale, at the Short Play Festival (The Players Theatre). In 2023 and 2024, he produced and hosted the monthly Clown Open Mic at Pine Box Rock Shop in association with Clown Gym. Edu is part of two improvisation companies with recurrent shows: 'Hormigas NYC' (in Spanish) and 'A Really Real Serious Collective' (improv in English). 


With over ten years of experience in performing arts, he produced several awarded plays in Spain, such as the commercial success 'Amores Minúsculos,' and has performed in theater and films such as 'Smoking Club (129 Rules)' and 'Third Week.'


As an actor and performer, he has studied with the best masters in the world, such as Susan Batson, Moisés Kaufman, Julia Proctor, Fernando Piernas, Natalia Mateo, and Gabriel Chamé. On the production side, Edu has an educational and professional background in marketing and communications and was part of Next Stage, a program by Tony Award-Winning Broadway Producer Ken Davenport.


In 2019, he won the Fulbright grant in Performing Arts, which brought him to New York City and opened up a world of possibilities.
